one little word: february photos

So, for the February prompt for my One Little Word project, I am supposed to take 9 pictures of things that reflect the word nurture. It hasn’t been an easy process but here is what I have so far:

From the dictionary in my office, where I work with students. For me this picture works on several levels. First, it reflects my word and my love of words and literature. It also pulls in my job because it’s from my office and is a dictionary that I use often with students. And my job nurtures my soul. I love working with students. I love seeing them grow. I love discovering them and watching their own self discovery. It is an amazing gift.

It’s another cat photo, I know. But if you look closely, you’ll see my foot and my husband’s leg. We’re all on the couch, enjoying a lazy Sunday morning.  Lazy mornings together nurture my soul!

Art journaling! It’s all about creativity, exploration, play. Learning new techniques (here I played with wax) and my life has been richer for all the things that art has brought into it.

To be continued of course, with my craft space. I have my own little studio for all of my own adventures. Virginia Woolf said that every woman needs a room of her own, and I have one, and I can attest to the fact that it’s GREAT!

Chai tea. It doesn’t have to be Starbucks. In fact, after having been to India, all the commercial versions of Chai just don’t hold a candle to the real thing. But a good Chai tea is like a mini meditation in bliss…

Love. Love. Love. From my husband, for my husband. From family. Brothers, Mothers, Friends, all. My life is full of constant reminders about how loved I really am and how blessed my life has been and is because of it. So Valentine’s day flowers from the person I share my life with and nurtures all of my endeavours and development.

Mindful acts of meditation. I meditate almost every morning and this nurtures me in ways that I cannot even begin to express.  I am happier, more thankful, and more whole because of this practice. And by extension, more forgiving, balanced and generous than I’ve ever felt before. Oh sure, I still have a long way to go, but so far, it’s been pretty amazing!

Quotes on my wall that remind me to celebrate life and follow my own bliss.

Family and the memories we create together. And fulfilling a long held goal of seeing things on my “life list/bucket list” of things to do and experience, just cause I’m curious about them.

one little word: nurture

january intro photo
So as you can probably tell, I’m on a scrapbooking binge at the moment and I’m currently hard at work on my January edition of my One Little Word album.
I chose the word nurture

I had to create a cover page as a pre-class project (which is the smaller page you see in the front). The course suggests using pink paislee sheets, but since I can’t find them locally and don’t want to pay a fortune in shipping, I’m making my own from old teaching folders. I’m sewing them and altering them to fit my project. I have 4x6 photo paper, so my cover page is only slightly larger than that.
So, because I love Indian motifs, I decided to use it as my inspiration on my January page.

This is my January page, but I think I’ll change some of the cards out because I’m not crazy about all of them.
Here are the January pages:

I took my picture standing in our bedroom and was surprised by how great the red wall worked as a backdrop. (Though I had to crop out the laundry basket, my jewelry and my make-up on the dresser)!
So that’s it for this month. See you again next month!

project 365 {4}

january intro photo

Always one to take on way too many projects at once (will I ever learn?), I signed up for Ali Edwards’ One Little Word project for the year.

The idea behind it is to pick one word as your “theme” for the year. Forget new year’s resolutions. This is about making one word your mantra for the year in order to bring that word/idea/theme into your world for that year.

I love the idea and thought that it seemed like a manageable form of scrapbooking/documenting a goal for 2011.

The above picture is my intro picture for the album!
